National Spinning has secured CAGE registration for both its National Spinning (yarn) and Carolina Nonwovens (nonwoven) divisions.
Quoting from the Federal Service Desk website, “The Commercial And Government Entity (CAGE) Code is a five-character ID number used extensively within the federal government, assigned by the Department of Defense’s Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The CAGE code is used to support a variety of mechanized systems throughout the government and provides a standardized method of identifying a given legal entity at a specific location. The code may be used for a facility clearance, or a pre-award survey.”

National Spinning associates honored by STA
Monday, June 27th, 2016At the June 2016 meeting of the Southern Textile Association, two National Spinning associates were recognized for their outstanding service to the United States textile industry. National Spinning extends heartiest congratulations to Jim Chesnutt and Mitch Hensley, with all wishes for continued success.

Chairman and CEO James W. (Jim) Chesnutt received the Chapman Award, created to recognize individuals for exemplary service to the U.S. textile industry. The award is named in honor of James A. Chapman, Sr., James A. Chapman, Jr., and Joseph Chapman of Inman Mills.
Mr. Chesnutt is a graduate of East Carolina University and began his career with Bank of America in Charlotte, NC. From 1973 to 1997 he worked for Harriet and Henderson Yarns, Inc., rising to the rank of president. In September of 1997, Mr. Chesnutt joined National Spinning, rising to the title of CEO and Chairman.
Chesnutt is a past chairman of the National Cotton Council. He served as past president of the National Council of Textile Organizations, the American Yarn Spinners Association, and the North Carolina Manufacturers Association. Chesnutt served as past board member of the New York Cotton Exchange and the Washington/Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, Mr. Chesnutt currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Medical and Health Sciences Foundation of East Carolina University, the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the East Carolina University College of Business Advisory Council, and the Vidant Medical Center. He is chairman of the Beaufort County Committee of 100 and serves on the Board of Trustees of Beaufort County Community College.
Jim and wife Judy reside in Washington, NC. They have two sons and four grandchildren.

Also honored by STA was Mitchell F. (Mitch) Hensley, business manager of technical yarns for National Spinning. Hensley is the recipient of the David Clark Award, named for the founder of STA. This prestigious award honors past presidents of the Southern Textile Association who continue to contribute distinguished leadership and service to the association and the U.S. textile industry for ten or more years following their service as STA president. Recipients are selected by a vote of the STA Board of Governors.
Mr. Hensley graduated from Appalachian State University in 1996 and began his textile career at Ramtex, Inc. He rose to the rank of manufacturing manager and, later, sales manager. In 2007, he joined Patrick Yarns, where he led as director of manufacturing. Mr. Hensley joined National Spinning in 2014.
Mitch’s professsional and civic activities include being a past manufacturer’s representative in the National Cotton Council, a current manufacturing advisory council member of Cleveland Community College, and a member of Central United Methodist Church in Shelby, NC.
Mitch and his wife Suzanne live in Shelby, NC with their three daughters.
National Spinning Company announces appointment to Board of Directors

National Spinning Co., Inc. is pleased to announce the election of Behnam Pourdeyhimi to its Board of Directors by unanimous consent at its recent quarterly meeting.
Dr. Pourdeyhimi is the Klopman Distinguished Professor of Textile Materials and the Associate Dean for Industry Research and Extension at North Carolina State University, where he also serves as Director of The Nonwovens Institute at North Carolina State University. He received his Ph.D. from Leeds University in 1982 and has held former positions at Cornell University, the University of Maryland, and Georgia Tech.
Dr. Pourdeyhimi is well known and respected in the fields of textiles, fiber science, nonwovens, biomaterials, and more. In addition to his own research and teaching, he has been a consultant to over 30 major research institutions and corporations.
In announcing Pourdeyhimi’s election to National Spinning’s board, Chairman James Chesnutt noted, “We could not be more excited to add Behnam to our board. His input will be invaluable as we continue to expand our footprint in nonwovens and as our legacy yarn business evolves.” Chesnutt added, “Behnam’s breadth of experience and contacts will serve all our operating divisions well.”

National Spinning shipping boxes of yesteryear live on in Rauschenberg’s timeless art

Many people are familiar with the work of noted artist Robert Rauschenberg (1925 to 2008). But how many know National Spinning’s yarn boxes were used in one of his celebrated pieces?
The work of art pictured above, titled “National Spinning,” is a three-dimensional object/sculpture created by the artist in 1971 of cardboard, wood, string, and steel. The dimensions are 100 x 98.5 x 8.5”. The work is currently on view in an exhibition called Precarious at the Menil Collection in Houston, TX. “National Spinning” has previously been exhibited at the Menil, Museu Serralves in Porto, Portugal, Haus Der Kunst in Munich, Germany and MADRE in Naples, Italy. In addition, it has been on view in Menil’s permanent collection galleries from time to time since its acquisition. This adds up to many, many views by eyes around the world.
We are pleased to have had the artist notice our boxes and re-purpose them for his intriguing and thought-provoking art. National Spinning giving back to the community in Beulaville, NC
Monday, May 18th, 2015The town of Beulaville, NC just became a little more beautiful and fun for families with the help of National Spinning, the Beulaville Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Vidant Duplin Hospital Foundation. New, modern playground equipment has been added to an existing park, giving the town’s children a fresh, fun, and healthy way to spend time outdoors.
National Spinning has operated a plant on Lyman Road since the 1960s. Plant manager Michael Thomas commented, “We are pleased to give back to the community we have been lucky enough to call home for so many years.”

On Saturday, January 16, 2015, Jim Booterbaugh, President of National Spinning will be the keynote speaker at the North Carolina Sheep Producers Association meeting in Greensboro, NC. We are honored to be affiliated with wool growers, who are so important to our supply-chain. National Spinning’s first business was wool and to this day we remain an important supplier of wool and wool-blend yarns for socks, outerwear, industrial products, and home furnishings. Wool combines functionality with comfort, durability, and rich colors. In addition, wool is a truly natural, sustainable fiber. Whether natural or dyed, long staple or short staple, wool yarn is key part of National Spinning’s DNA.
The Outdoor Retailer Show takes place in Salt Lake City, UT from January 21 to 24 this year.
