January trade events for National Spinning

Friday, January 16th, 2015

The textile industry begins 2015 with three notable trade events in January.  National Spinning is pleased to participate as follows.

On Saturday, January 16, 2015, Jim Booterbaugh, President of National Spinning will be the keynote speaker at the North Carolina Sheep Producers Association meeting in Greensboro, NC.  We are honored to be affiliated with wool growers, who are so important to our supply-chain.  National Spinning’s first business was wool and to this day we remain an important supplier of wool and wool-blend yarns for socks, outerwear, industrial products, and home furnishings.  Wool combines functionality with comfort, durability, and rich colors.  In addition, wool is a truly natural, sustainable fiber.  Whether natural or dyed, long staple or short staple, wool yarn is key part of National Spinning’s DNA.

The Outdoor Retailer Show takes place in Salt Lake City, UT from January 21 to 24 this year.  Mitch Hensley and Mike Carter from National Spinning will be walking the show and meeting with supply-chain partners.  Whether you are making active sportswear, protective clothing, or OEM textile products, chances are National has a yarn to fit the bill. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a meeting or visit to your booth.

TexWorld USA will take place in New York City’s Javits Center from January 19 to 21, 2015.  Bob Miller and Robert Gordon will be walking the show to meet with suppliers and customers.  Please contact us if you would like to arrange a meeting.

National Spinning/Joseph Leff Scholarship at NCSU

NCSU Textile

National Spinning continues to sustain the Joseph Leff Scholarship for a full-time student majoring in textiles at North Carolina State University.

This scholarship, named in honor of our late Chairman, is intended for children and grandchildren of current National Spinning Co., Inc. employees interested in entering the exciting field of textiles.  It offers substantial tuition support. If there are no candidates that meet this qualification, consideration is given to other relatives of National Spinning employees and/or students who live in towns near National Spinning  manufacturing plants.

Textile graduates have many exciting employment opportunities in the US and beyond.  Textiles are used in everything from clothing to protective gear, health care, personal hygiene, automobiles, construction, engineered materials, home furnishings, and more. Today’s textile industry is “high tech”, innovative, and critical to meeting the challenges of our world.

The robust world of textiles encompasses design, science, and business. If you can imagine a career involved in anything from color chemistry to industrial design, robotics, fashion and more, then you owe it to yourself to consider studying textiles at NC State and exploring this scholarship!

In December, 1921 National Spinning was born. Starting as a worsted wool comber, spinner, and dyer with manufacturing facilities in Jamestown, NY and offices in New York City, sales were originally concentrated in the US Northeast and Midwest. Since then, National Spinning has changed with the times to remain an essential link in the US textile supply-chain.

Today our company produces long staple and short staple yarns from a wide selection of raw materials for a diverse range of products sold around the world. Our Carolina Nonwovens division processes reclaimed and virgin fibers into pads and rolls for acoustic insulation, bedding, and geotextile applications. Our Hampton Art division sells a wide line of creative products to crafts retailers.  As an ESOP company, our employees participate in our success.

We celebrate our founders, pay tribute to our owner-associates throughout the years, and remain grateful for the American free-enterprise system that makes it all possible. National strives to maintain its track record of being responsive to the market and shareholders by

  • Insistence on high quality-standards
  • Promotion of a safe and environmentally sustainable workplace
  • Commitment to strong trade relationships
  • Attention to financial strength

A big THANK YOU to all who make this anniversary of our founding possible. Long may the National Spinning name continue to loom large in the pantheon of great US companies.
